My vision is to see a Catholic Church with equality and openness to the diversity which the word 'Catholic' means. From the Greek Katholika which means 'universal', the Catholic Church needs to embrace the heterogenous views of the society in which it exists, if it is to continue to be relevant in the technologically and socially connected world. For this reason my books contain insights that will assist Catholic lay people to take up the challenge to lead new models of ecclesiology, and also to maintain a sense of belonging in the post Vatican era.
Unholy Silence
The Paradox of Catholic Priesthood.
On October 17th 2010, eight thousand Australian Catholics were amongst the hundreds of thousands crowded into St Peter’s Basilica in Rome in collective euphoria as they awaited the canonisation of our first national saint. Most lay people in the Church were unaware that this day almost never happened. If the upper echelon had had their way, Mary MacKillop’s name would have remained suppressed along with her Order, the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
A few days earlier The ABC's Compass program revealed that at the time of her leadership of the Order in 1871, Sisters in Mary MacKillop's Josephites (as they were known colloquially), attracted the ire of the hierarchy by revealing that Father Keating of Kapunda, South Australia was molesting children at the local church school. The Sisters reported the abuse to the Vicar-General and disciplinary action was taken against Father Keating, humiliating him, and angering a Father Charles Horan, who was close to Bishop Laurence Shiel, the boss of the Adelaide Catholic Diocese. Father Horan is believed to have harboured a grudge against Sister Mary MacKillop, and the other whistle-blowers in her order, and used his influence over the bishop to manipulate him into throwing the meddling nun out of the church later on, that same year.
Bishop Shiel’s conscience must have plagued him because he reversed her excommunication on his deathbed! If Father Horan had had his way, this troublesome rebel would still be silenced by excommunication. What was her sin? Wishing to uncover and prevent the continuation of the crimes of a paedophile priest? Mother Mary of the Cross, as Sister Mary MacKillop later became known as, had become aware of the awful activities of the man who was entrusted with the spiritual lives and souls of the young and vulnerable.
Paedophillia continues unabated amongst the clergy in the Catholic Church, largely fuelled by the secrecy that surrounds the personal lives and activities of priests. This book endeavours to expose some of those well kept, dark, in-house secrets.

Unelected Silence
From programmer to priest, from celibacy to celebrity.
A collection of anecdotes from the homilies of Father Kevin.
His nine different parish appointments across his 20 years of ministry has given him a wealth of material to motivate and inspire the willing follower of Jesus Christ to find meaning in and through the Catholic religion.
As Father Kevin is quick to correct, "he is a priest of Jesus Christ, not of the Catholic Church". His stories will draw links between the Scriptural records of the historical Jesus and the religion that has brought meaning to many people's lives.

St Rita's Home for Children
Orphanage in Paranaque, Manila, Philippines.
The orphanage operated by the Augustinian Recollect Sisters has been a pet project of Father Kevin's, since he first became aware in 19?? of the fact that Manila has 50 orphanages operating in the metropolitan area of this third world metropolis. The Church gives very little in terms of its total percentage of income to works of charity. By far the majority of its funds are used to increase earning capacity by funding profit bearing schools, hospitals, universities and aged/child care institutions. Therefore Father Kevin has attempted to generate funds for works such as orphanages and St Vincent de Paul operated Matthew Talbott Hostel for Homeless men.
As well, he is deeply concerned about the state of the mentally ill, and wishes to use his influence and expertise in motivating governments to provide more than a band-aid solution to the current mental health crisis.
He is also concerned about the growth in marijuana use among teenagers and the availability of illicit manufactured drugs. He sees a strong connection between the breakdown of the family structure and drugs, and the use of illegal substances and suicide amongst the young. These things also contributing to the growth of mental health problems in the modern world.
Father Kevin hopes that the sales of his books may generate some funds which he can use to continue and further develop his various ministry areas, and to also source safe and appropriate crisis accommodation for young and vulnerable runaways.
